Luis is a former pastor deeply passionate about church leadership training and church ministry consulting.
He graduated from the University of Massachusetts (Lowell, MA) with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Eden Theological Seminary (St. Louis, MO) with a Master of Divinity. Additional advanced and executive level training includes interim ministries, strategic planning, and executive coaching. After seminary, he served concurrently for 30+ years in two unique settings.
The first setting included one new church development followed by eight intentional interims in two denominations -- the United Church of Christ and Presbyterian Church (USA). The second setting he served included Navy Chaplaincy on both active and reserve duty in a variety of shore, sea, and oversees commands. In 2020 he retired in the rank of Navy Captain (06) after 25 years as a Navy Chaplain. In 2023, he "officially retired" from congregational ministry. His ministry background also includes stints teaching preaching and biblical studies in Asbury Seminary's Latino/Latina Studies Program.
His background has been described by some as "fascinating." His original religious roots lie in the Pentecostal tradition, has served as a pastor in UCC and PCUSA congregations, and worships at a Spanish-speaking Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) congregation. Luis now continues his passion for ministry by leading workshops (The Leadership School) in lay leadership development, engaging in transitional/search team consulting, and when available, providing preaching/pulpit supply ministry in a number of multidenominational settings.
In his spare time, he enjoys supporting his local faith community, traveling the world (35+ countries), investing in real estate, and spending time with the people that mean the most to him.
Perhaps the most important aspect of who he is are the most important titles in his life. They are, "husband" (married for over 44 years with the smartest retired church history professor and most beautiful woman in the world), "dad" (a father of two amazingly wonderful adult children), and "grandpa" of the smartest and most beautiful 8-year old granddaughter in the world.
